This series builds off of (number) by shifting the focus from fields of abstract geometric figures to the silhouettes of figures that can be associated with a particular object or the shape of the human body. Like the previous series, this field exists over a non-representational ground. In the process, a tension between the blurred field and a hard-lined field emerges. Still, the hard-lined filed remains abstract and without references to specific objects or people – even if at times the shape is quite evocative. The result ideally feels like a surreal memory with the various objects coming together to form a sequence that might trace some past event. The sequence, however, remains unfixed and it is left to the viewer to consider what has actually occurred. Hopefully, this ambiguity is stimulating and will provoke continued interest and engagement with the work over time.
